Original Sheet Music, "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life", 1910

"Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life" is a song from the 1910 American operetta Naughty Marietta, with a libretto by Rida Johnson Young and music by Victor Herbert. Vonnegut once referred to this as his favorite song, its message being that "it is love and love alone the world is seeking".[1] A duet of this song performed by Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy was playing on the phonograph when the head of Dr. Norbert Frankenstein was awakened, shortly after being saved by Drs. Elbert Little and Tom Swift.[2]
