The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction is a periodical first published in 1949 which quickly became a leading magazine in the science fiction and fantasy fields. It serialized Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers in the October and November 1959 editions under the name "Starship Soldier".[1] That book ultimately won the 1960 Hugo Award for Best Novel, for which The Sirens of Titan was also a finalist.[2] Starting with the December 1974 issue, it serialized the novel Venus on the Half-Shell by Philip José Farmer but originally attributed to Kilgore Trout. This would lead to a letter to the editor from Vonnegut remarking on the publication in the April 1975 edition. Vonnegut published a single short story in the magazine, "Harrison Bergeron", on October 5, 1961.
